Here is a list of the wildlife of Verdenzye. Since it has a lot of varied ecosystems, there will be a lot of entries over time. I've grouped them according to location and biome.
Forest Creatures
Creature
Description
Luminatte
A graceful six-legged creature with bioluminescent antler-like horns that light up the forest at night. It uses its mid and hind legs to brace itself when restraining its prey, then uses the venom-tipped spurs on its forelegs to paralyze and kill its targets. A common steed when domesticated.
Maasket
A cat-like animal with a mossy fuzz covering its body that helps it blend into the forest floor. Look for the twinkle of three golden eyes among the peat lest you step on them and have them raise the yowl that brings their clan to the rescue.
Murmuring Ivis
Murmuring Ivises are elusive nocturnal scavengers known for their ghostly calls that echo through the forest at night. They can fly, and look somewhat similar to earth-owls, but their odd, many-pupiled golden eyes suggest they see a very different view of the world than the other denizens.
Shoreline Creatures
Creature
Description
Sandstrider
A large ten-legged thing with a long, narrow head, thorax and abdomen that scuttles swiftly across the beach sands, and can survive without food for several months. They are prized by locals as low-maintenance task beasts and transportation.
Splithead Serpent
A strange venomous water serpent that lives in seaside fens, and can occasionally be found with more than one head.
Rimespitter
A small, finned creature found in the northern coastal waters. It can freeze water brought in through gill-like flaps using a freon-generating gland, then expel the freezing water into the faces of its smaller prey.
Mountain Creatures
Creature
Description
Rockcreep
A type of mobile mold colony common to the mountains of Roko, capable of surprisingly quick bursts of locomotion with its flagella.
Belleraptor
A bird only ever seen on the continent of Roko, known for its translucent, sheet-like plumage, singular eye and distinctive call. It's intelligent and mean, prone to sudden changes in mood and preference.
Gnurl
A large, chitin-armored species that can curl in on itself for protection, or safely roll down steep slopes. Its chitin has a thin layer of fluff.
Wetland Creatures
Creature
Description
Ghast-croaker
A creature with pale, poisonous skin stretched over a porous exoskeleton. The eyes are poison sacs, and the tongue is a proboscis. Its large froggish smile is often the last thing prey sees.
Grassland Creatures
Creature
Description
Non-Cat
The infamous non-cat is still an earth-cat, despite the name. It uses a combination of pheromones and beta wave interference to create convincing illusions of its presence while it sneaks up on its distracted prey.
